Presidential Oath

Below you will find the Presidential Oath spoken by all presidents who take office in the United States of America.  Please read the oath carefully, think about what a president should promise to his country when he takes office, and answer the following questions.  Is there anything you would add to the oath?  If so, what would you add?  If not, why wouldn't you add anything?

I am looking for correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.  Please give thoughtful answers and feel free to debate with one another!

Presidential Oath

"I, name, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and I will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."

    I think that it is fine the way it is.the reason I dont think they could change anything because it states the basic rules and things the president has to do and follow. Its states that the president will do the best they can do.

    I would not change it because they are saying that they are promasing to our country. Also they are saying that they would keep this wile they are leading. That is what I think.

    I think they need to add more. I think they need to say something about how they are going to achieve this as a president, Yes it does say they are going to be a good president and they will protect their country and try their best. How are they going to achieve this though? They should say more to this on what they are going to do. It is very short in my opinion and does not have to much detail on how they will do this. I think it needs some more detail, it was very short and not detailed enough on how they would achieve this and what special things they would do for the United States, yes it says they are going to protects us.....but how are they going to do this is what I am still wondering.

    I wouldn't change it becuase they the are swearing to the holy bible to keep there country out of misery or to keep them safe.

    I would not change it becuase whoever said it already said to the state, and would have to redo the whole thing if they were to change it, which could be a problem becuase what if the people like they old saying, and they declare that they want the old one back? Also, becuase they already swore to God, so they had no choice but to keep it.

    I think the president oath is to sort!I mean come on guys he just said that they were going to be to prodct us. If I was president I would sware to protect are nation and always be loyal and never lie or betray my countrey like paul river did!

      This thing is way to short, they are becoming head of our government it depends on him to make people have good lives. It needs to state specificly that he will never betrey his country, and remain loyal. Also that he will never use his power for evil and will respect the peoples choices.

    I would not change a thing on the Oath because it says that he will do his best to keep this out of misery and keep it safe.

    I don't know what I would do to it. I mean it says "ability, preserve, protect, and defend" in the President Oath, so that is great I like that part. What I would change is that I would make it longer. It is short and just a few simple lines not huge statement. I would like to know more about how they will protcect us!

    I would not change one tiny little thing on the Oath, because it says that he would do his best to keep this out of mistery. I would also not change it because they swear to the Holy Bible. The last reason of why i would not change it is because you swear to a bunch of items and people.

    I agree with Mackenzie, because they should tell how they r going to do to protect us. Also, it should be just a tad bit longer, but not a whole page, 'cause it would be so long a lot of people might stop paying attention i know i would.

    I would not change anything in the Oath because it says all that it needs to say. like it says they will protect,preserve,and defend the Constitution of the united states. i think that is all that it needs to say and nothing else.

    Whoa! Way too short.I would definentley change this. I mean, I know this is a tradition we have been doing for years, but can't they say something about the citizens? At least like an I won't kill or murder the citizens, or that he will protect and defend us!

    I disagree with this because it is way to short.That isnot promisinga enough to your country. Just saying i will protect you you need a lot more than that. I know i would wright a lot more than that. That is why i dissagre

    I would not change anything because protecting the counstuion protects our rights that we fought for in the war. Also it protets our citizen rights of freedom. I would not change any thing

    I would change a lot because its way to short. I know it States that it will do a lot but I think we need to add a lot more to it. It isn't enough to protect your people. I think it should say something about the people and how much he will do for the people and his country. If I were a present I would sure say way more then that but I mean not to much. At least I wouldn't write a little bit.

    WHOA WHOA WHOA! That is totally too short. I agree with Mckayla becaues he/she did'nt say anything about the citizens, or say if he will force people to do things. Like the president might force you to be a Christian, or a worker. Also, he could tell the country what to do. I believe the Oath is too short, and not specific enough. I believe the way the president put the Oath is a bad idea. Claire

    i think that it is just right the way it is, it states the most important parts you need to promise to the country and the people.

    I think they should not change it because the president is already swearing to protect the constitution, and it covers most of our rights from the constitution that our forefathers wrote.
