The Little Prince Chapters

Week of March 28-April 1

Our newest Leader of the Week is

Caty!!!

Caty has been an exceptional leader! As hall monitor for the past several months, she has had the important job of helping the class to travel quietly through the halls and to reach our destination in a timely manner. She has put first things first by being a role model rather than socializing in the hall and she done this with a positive, can-do attitude! She is also a very hard working student and her success in the classroom is a direct result of her ability to begin with the end in mind! Keep it up, Caty!

This is just a reminder to parents that students are not permitted to carry medication to and from school with exception of an inhaler with documentation from the physician.  All medication is to be kept in the health room. Parents need to drop off any medication and fill out an authorization to give medication form before medication can be given. This is a board policy. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse, Michelle Evans. Thank you!

Here’s what we will be learning about next week!
Science:  Our focus will continue to be on earth systems this week. However, this week, we will learn about how various systems interact with one another.
Social Studies: During social studies, we will continue to study the Civil War and the kids will get to explore Civil War stations that we will set up to show them what life was like during this awful war. This unit will culminate with a test on Friday.
Math: We will review and wrap up our unit on geometry with a test on Thursday.
Reading: This week, we will review the skills of comparing and contrasting 2 different texts and of pulling information from a text to support our thinking.
Writing: Since we finished The Little Prince this week, the kids will have the opportunity next week to write their own chapter for the book. The little prince is known for his travels and his confusion about adults and their strange ways, so they will create a new character for him to meet.

Week of March 7th-11th

Our newest Leader of the Week is…

Cory!!!

Cory is a pro at thinking win-win! He is nice to everyone he meets and he works hard to follow expectations every day! Cory puts first things first because he knows that school comes before play. Recently, he has shown such pride in his work that it’s obvious he begins with the end in mind! Cory loves to sharpen the saw by riding dirt bikes and spending time with friends! Way to go, Cory!!

Good afternoon, parents! This week was full of new learning! The kids really impressed me with their engineering abilities as they made landscape designs for a garden housing full sun, partial sun, and shade loving plants during science this week! Ask your child to describe what he/she did with their group!

Here’s what we’re learning this week!
Science: This week we will learn about gravity and its effects not only on objects here on Earth, but also on objects in outer space.
Social Studies: This week we will finish our study of the levels of government and move into a study of westward expansion. We will learn about Lewis & Clark, Manifest Destiny, and the effects of westward expansion on Native Americans.
Math: Our geometry unit continues this week with a focus on patterns and graphing patterns on a coordinate grid.
Reading: During reading this week, we will begin reading The Little Prince. The kids will work on summarizing as we read and they will begin inferring the meaning of the Little Prince’s journey and the characters he encounters along the way.
Writing: During writing this week, we will continue to examine texts with an exploration theme. However, this week the kids will have the opportunity to take a poem and turn it into a play. By doing this, the kids will find that not only are they using their own creativity to do this, but it will help enhance their understanding of the original text.
