Week of March 7th-11th

Our newest Leader of the Week is…

Cory!!!

Cory is a pro at thinking win-win! He is nice to everyone he meets and he works hard to follow expectations every day! Cory puts first things first because he knows that school comes before play. Recently, he has shown such pride in his work that it’s obvious he begins with the end in mind! Cory loves to sharpen the saw by riding dirt bikes and spending time with friends! Way to go, Cory!!

Good afternoon, parents! This week was full of new learning! The kids really impressed me with their engineering abilities as they made landscape designs for a garden housing full sun, partial sun, and shade loving plants during science this week! Ask your child to describe what he/she did with their group!

Dates to Know:
Wednesday, March 9 ~ Progress Reports
Thursday, March 10 & Monday, March 14 ~ Parent-
Teacher Conferences

Love is a 4-Legged Word
We are tied for first right now in collecting items for the Animal Care Society! Donations can be sent in through March 11th. If you would like to make any donations, I’ve attached the list of needed items to this email. The winning class will receive a visit from a furry friend at the Animal Care Society.

Signed Tests
Please remember to sign and return both the recent math and social studies test on Monday if you have not already done so. I keep these on file here at school. Thank you! J

Here’s what we’re learning this week!
Science: This week we will learn about gravity and its effects not only on objects here on Earth, but also on objects in outer space.
Social Studies: This week we will finish our study of the levels of government and move into a study of westward expansion. We will learn about Lewis & Clark, Manifest Destiny, and the effects of westward expansion on Native Americans.
Math: Our geometry unit continues this week with a focus on patterns and graphing patterns on a coordinate grid.
Reading: During reading this week, we will begin reading The Little Prince. The kids will work on summarizing as we read and they will begin inferring the meaning of the Little Prince’s journey and the characters he encounters along the way.
Writing: During writing this week, we will continue to examine texts with an exploration theme. However, this week the kids will have the opportunity to take a poem and turn it into a play. By doing this, the kids will find that not only are they using their own creativity to do this, but it will help enhance their understanding of the original text.
