Week of May 16-20

Good afternoon, parents! We had a great start to the week today! The kids enjoyed learning more about economics today, converting between metric units of measure, silent reading, and we even had the opportunity to do a little co-authoring about the 7 habits! Please remember that there is no school tomorrow for Election Day. However, come Wednesday, KPREP Testing is upon us. Please help your child to get plenty of rest, to eat healthy, and to enjoy some relaxation time at home. I will not assign homework during testing in an effort to allow them some extra free time at home. Testing can be stressful and I’d like to do all we can to reduce the kids’ stress levels.

Dates to Know
5/17 - Election Day – No School
5/21- Huskypalooza from 5-8 pm
5/27 - 5th Grade Recognition @ 9:15 in the cafeteria
5/30 - Memorial Day – No School
5/31 – Class Ice Cream Social @ Wendell Moore Park 6-7pm
6/1 – Students’ Last Day & Jumpies in the Gym

Things you need to Know for Testing:

ü  We begin each day at 8:05am.

ü  NO cell phones please! If anyone does bring one, I must collect it and keep it on my desk.

ü  Please send the following items to school each day:

Ø  Snack

Ø  A water bottle

Ø  Gum or mints

ü  A snack is very important this week as our lunch time has been moved to 12:32. Please remember that parents are not able to come in during the testing window. Thank you for understanding.

Class Ice Cream Social
If you are planning to join us for the ice cream social, please let me know by May 27th, so I will know how many ice cream sandwiches to buy. I’m looking forward to enjoying some non-school time with the kiddos! The location of the event will be at Wendell Moore Park (next to the Oldham County Aquatics Center). I have reserved the pavilion right next to the playground for seating.

5th Grade Recognition
Our class will have 5th Grade Recognition @ 9:15 in the cafeteria on  Friday, May 27th! After the ceremony, please join us in the cafeteria for a short reception with cake. J Feel free to invite family members to share in this special celebration!

 NOMS Related Arts Forms
I still have 7 students who have not returned their North Oldham Related Arts forms. This is important because if not completed, your child will not get a say in his/her Related Arts for next year. Please complete this form with your child and return it to me by May 27th. I’d like to drop these off at the middle school that afternoon. Thank you!

Our Learning Plan this Week

Classroom Guidance: The kids will be learning about something called The Conflict Resolution (TCR) with Mrs. Murphy. This is a great tool for learning to handle conflict in middle school.

Social Studies: This week we are going over economics again because the kids still seem a little confused, so we are learning how economics plays a role in our day-to-day lives.

Math: We will continue learning about measurement with a focus this week on the metric system.

ELA: We will practice planning our writing for a specific purpose. Next week the kids will get to begin writing a career research essay on the career of their choice!

*We will have Related Arts each day during testing, but it will take place at 1:25 instead of our usual 7:55 time.

Have a great week and please contact me if you have any questions or concerns! I can’t believe this school year is almost over. I’m going to miss your sweet kiddos!!
