Have you ever found yourself at restaurant ordering more food with a meal than you can possibly eat? To go along with our study of opinion writing, I found this great link where I'd like for you to read an article and watch a video about restaurants that actually charge customers extra for any food leftover on their plate after they finish a meal. Read the article and watch the video at the following link: http://www.dogonews.com/2011/12/5/should-restuarants-penalize-customers-for-leftover-food. Then leave a comment on the blog so we can debate about whether or not this fine is fair. What do you think? Should restaurants have this fine or not? Support your answer with information from the video or the article.

I think it would be fair becuASE THEIR IS A LOT OF HUNGRY PEOPLE DOWN IN AFRICA AND LOTS OF OTHER COUNTRIES.
ReplyDeletesrry 4 the caps i had the caps lock on
DeleteI would agree with Alex, but there is not much food in other countries like Somolia. Then it would be fair. In other countries it would. It be fair because they have food to eat and do not have the right to tax left overs.
ReplyDeleteI think that it this is not fair because people-like me-do not eat a lot. Example: I don't even eat half a plate. I have a point, they do put a lot of food on your plate. I also think that it is okay to give a little donation, but not a whole tax.

Deletei disagree bc some people are starving and if u dont eat a lot then u can get a small mean so u wont have to pay extra.it will be the amount u eat and lots of the time when i eat some one elese is still hungrey so u could give it to them
I kind of disagree with Claire. She has a point though. I have a bright idea! How about you start off with a small plate, then get more if your still hungry. Claire has a point, because I dont eat much at restraunts either, but if you dont finish, and there is plenty left, then I agree that you should be taxed, only 10%. And, the kid should pay, or whoever didn't eat it!!!! (The 10%) XOXOXOXO!
DeleteClaire if you don't have much you should not waste your food bought for
Deletei agree with you but i dis agree with alex because i think that this should only happen in countries that are poor this $ could help them gain $ for that country. On the other hand the USA dose not have as much people that do not finish their food as other countries.
ReplyDeleteI full on agree with Tyler. He has a great point. I think that too!!!!! XOXOXOXOXOXO Peace Love,
DeleteSophie
You are right Tyler.
DeleteI partly agree and disagree with Alex because, although yes it a good idea for the restraunts to help the people who are hungry and cannot afford a meal but, the customers already bought the food and they already payed so they should not have to pay an extra tax. If the restraunts feel the need and right to feed the people who cannot afford a meal then maybe they should take part of the money you buy a meal with and give that to a charity. This might also be losing their customers. Yes I do think it is a good thing to do by giving the poor money, they should not be taxing the customers when they do not finish their food. :-)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Alex, Ainsley, Trent, and Tyler because it is helping countries in need! I think it is great, beacause it is giving money to the poor. Alot of people might die without food and clean water.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Mackenzie
I agree with Ainsley about Alex because it would be a good way to give money to other countries, but it is not fair to pay taxes on what you don't eat every ounces. Especially if you don't eat a lot.
DeleteClare
i agree w/ u trent, i also think that some countries do not have much food at alll.
ReplyDeleteI think it is sort of fair AND unfair. I think this because it is a good thing that you satisfy your stomach, but when you think you've had enough, it's not fair to pay a tax for it. But it is also fair because in Somalia, there are many people dying of hunger and thirst :(.And about the greediness they mentioned in the video... I think the greedy people actually deserve to be taxed because they are hogging up all the food for the hungry people, which is not fair at all!:(
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tyler too. many countries are lacking goods
Deletei also agree w/ claire because it is not fair to pay extea for what u can not eat!! so now i kid of agree but at the same time I disagree
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be fair. I think this because the cook or chef make awesome food, but some people can`t finish their food. So, people in other countries wound`nt like having too pay taxes on their food, that they did not finish. Especially it wound`nt be fair that people in other countries, did not finish their food just by a couply tiny bites.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ali I agree too
ReplyDeleteSince some countries have lack of food, they can make more money by taxing people on unfinished foods. That money that they make can help their country buy food, cloths, clean water, and better doctors.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should not have to pay for left over food because the way that the economie is today people do not have enough money. i think that as long as it's for a good cause though it wouldn't be that bad. It also is leason because now not as many people there will buy food to show up.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Claire i left you a message on your house phone!
I think it was fair if they got charged for not eating your food for a certain amount of time because if the restraunt was very popular and there was not that much space the people who didn't have a spot had to wait
ReplyDeleteI think it is fair because there is a lot of starving people out there. I also think that its fair because the people at the restaurant make that food but then it goes to waste. I have bought a lot of food and didn't finish a lot of times at restaurants. But now if you think about it the cook makes all that food then it goes to waste. Also the people starving need the money. :)
ReplyDeletei think that it is nice to put that tax since he is helping people that need food
ReplyDeleteI am now starting to think that it is fair because, it is very nice to give the money to buy people food who need it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think its fair because there's a lot of starving people in the world that need money. I also don't like paying for stuff. Imagine a place were you don't have any money at all to buy food. Would you want people to help you by giving you money? Because I would. Also think about the cook in the restaurants that make food and see it go to waste. Would you be mad? I would. I also sometimes don't finish my food at restaurants too.
ReplyDeletesrry i thought the last one didnt send
ReplyDeleteI think the extra taxes for not finishing your food is fair because so people around africa and other parts of the world, do not even get a meal a day and if you are lukey you will get a pices a bread from the trash. Some people whole are starving do not have any money.Persinoly I do not like buying my things. I would like to see a world whith out starving people , I would give some money if I had some.thowe I think that it is unfair becuase if I was poor and I finley made enough money and I did not finsh my food I would not have enough money, I would go to jail.
ReplyDeleteI think it is fair because people that don't eat all their food are wasting food that could save a life. It is also good that there is a fine so the money goes to people that need the food. I think it is a really nice thing that they do, because if it the money did'nt go to charity I would completelly hate that they charged for food. But they don't so it's cool.
ReplyDeletei think taxes for not finishing you food is fiar because some people in africa would get a peice of food from some where. i dont like when people have no money to buy anything. i think its a little unfair because if people didnt have that much money and didnt finish their food they would go to jail.
ReplyDeleteExactly !!!!!!
DeleteI do not think it is fair. The reason is because, I think restaurants should make sizes of portions if they want to save money. Plus from the money they save from that, they could send it to other countries.
ReplyDeleteBut if they have no money they should tax goods such as things that have no sentimental value but a nifty price.
DeleteI think that it is good that they charge for left over food because that food could save a life somewhere else. If they didn't give the money to charity I would not like the law, but they do give it to charity so they are cool.
ReplyDeleteI thought my other one didn't send
DeleteI think it is smart because some people starve in other countrys un like america where we waist our food. In countrys people are starving and have no food and money to waist. It is not like every resturant does it just some of them so it is not that bad.If it is for a good reson and cause then i guess it is ok to do for people.
ReplyDeletefrom lilly<3
that was from lilly but on my das account
ReplyDeletei do not think that it is right. maybe they wernt hungry and then they give them a big plate of food and they did not eat it all. so i disagree with lilly.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the restaurant becuse they are doing it for a good cause like charity for countries that need food. It teaches you to order only what you can eat.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the restraunt should tax it, but only around poorer countries. I already commented by CLAIRE BEAR!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO <3
ReplyDeleteI agree with bella I think that they should have diff- sizes
ReplyDeleteNow I think that isn't right
ReplyDeleteIt is very right to try to money but only on right circumstances tax on left overs
ReplyDeleteYou guys are doing a great job debating! It's a tough call, isn't it? Of course, the poor deserve to eat too, but is it really fair to tax people who don't finish their food. Think about how much food restaurants serve in the U.S. I know I can rarely clear the plate at an eat-in restaurant without feeling way too full. Perhaps we should tax restaurants that put too much food on the plate. That could be interesting.
ReplyDeleteThe countries need more money more money means more food more food means more money to buy more food it's a cycle!
Deletewell I also agree whith bella it is unfiar yaa the restdronts , well I think the restrdronts keep some of the money.
ReplyDeleteGuys this is like an act lets call it the leftover food tax act!
ReplyDeleteMrs.whitley you are tollty right thta would be very interesing, if the restdronts if we put a tax on the restdoronts.

ReplyDeleteI think this fine is fair because it says in the video that money they tax is for a good cause and goes to poorer countries. Another I think this is fair is because not eating all your food and throwing it away after done is just a big waste.
ReplyDeleteI mostly dis agrie with sophie or ophie.
