MLK, Jr. Homework

Please read the article at the link below and watch the video that follows.  You will learn all about Martin Luther King, Jr., the man who led the Civil Rights Movement.  Thanks to him and many other brave people, we now live in a country where it is unconstitutional to treat someone differently based on the color of their skin.  After viewing the video, please write a comment to share one thing you learned and please write one way our life would be different if not for the brave leadership of Martin Luther King, Jr.

  1. I would not have any black friends if this had never happened. And I don't know why some one would kill him either if they thought over thier skin or they didnt agree with him.

  2. I learned from this that Martain Luther King JR. Was killed by an assasian while he was traveling to Memphis, TN. I also learned that he never lived to see his dream come true! I never knew that!!!!!
My life would be different because I would not be in school with any black people. I would have also not met some of my friends! My school would only be white people, because black and white people would have had to go to different schools if it was not for Martain Luther King JR!!

I could not have some my firends that I have now, like Lucy. Also I would feel sad for those people that have to use the things that are in bad condition. Last they can not use or do the same thing we do like a water fountain.

  4. I learned that Martin Luther King Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia. I also learned that he was born in 1929, and died in 1968.
My life would be different if he didn't say that speech because some of my friends are black and I care if my friends aren't treated as equal. Everyone is the same on the inside. Black, white, it doesn't matter as long as it's equal.

  10. I learned that MLK jr. held his most outstanding speech in Washington, DC were over 250,000 people, whites and blacks gathered to hear him speak. I think that this would effect my life today because alot of people that are my friends are black and I would not be able to see them as much. Also it makes everyones lives easier.

  11. What I learned from the Mather Luther king JR. video is that Mather Luther King JR. was a patriot from acts of skin color. He lived from 1929-1968. He also made many announcements, but the most popular one,was the "I have a dream" announcement. And even after his assassination, Mather Luther King JR. was a very famous guy!!

  20. Martin Luther King Jr. was treated badly because of his skin. All the white kids didn't play or hang out with him because of skin. Martin and all the other black people had to go to different schools then the white people, drink out of different water fountains then the white people, and sat in different places on the bus away from the white people. This was unfair because black people were judged by their skin. I also learned that Martin Luther King Jr. got married and had 4 kids 2 boys and 4 girls. I also learned he grew up in Atlanta Georgia. Martin Luther King Jr. stopped this races things. But he died by a assassin in 1996. If he didn't stop these races things we wouldn't have black friends, and we wouldn't go to the same school as them :)

  23. What i learned is that MLK jr. was killed by an assassin. I didnt know that he was actually killed. I thought that he died peacefully.

How my life would be different if MLK jr. wouldnt have made that speech, is I wouldnt be able to hang out with one of my good friends. I would have NEVER new her if it wasnt for MLK jr.! I would not be as free, i would feel like a girl trapped in a hole, i would feel un-free! Thank God for Martin Luther King jr!! Love, your bff,

    2. If MLK jr. did not have started any of the protests or given his speach, my life would be totally diffrent. I would not have any colored friends. I would be at a diffrent school, I would not be able to drink out of the same waterfountain. I might have slaves. I also think he was very brave for what he did, he stood up for his beliefs knowing he could be killed. He was VERY BRAVE I probably would not have done that unless I was as brave as him. even though he was killed he was killed with happiness in his heart and knowing he changed other peoples hearts and lives also. He was a great man.

  24. You guys gave great responses! I'm really proud of you! Please know that Martin Luther King, Jr. did not end slavery though. Slavery ended with the Civil War in the late 1800's, decades before Dr. King was born.
