Week of May 25-29

And our current Leaders of the Week are...

Charlotte & Will!!
Poor Charlotte recently injured her leg and needs to use wheelchair for a few weeks while it heals.  She has been so gracious about this.  She has used the 7 habits by being proactive about seeking help as needed and by synergizing with her peers to do daily activities with which she needs help. Most of all, her attitude has been extraordinary.  She has had a smile on her face every day and continues to do all of the same daily activities without a complaint.
Will also uses the 7 habits each day!  He puts first things first by ensuring he completes all schoolwork each day before finding time to play.  He was the first in our class to complete XtraMath and he did so early in the year due to his perseverance on his math facts!  Will also enjoys sharpening the saw through physical activity and is known as one of the fastest runners in our school!

Lunch Change & Testing Snack
Please send your child to school with a snack and a water tomorrow.  Snack will be important to have as we have moved our lunch time to 12:27 to allow ample time to finish testing each morning.

Math:  We will review concepts previously learned this year such as computation with decimals and fractions.

Week of May 11-15

Our newest Leader of the Week is...

Chloe!!

Chloe has earned the title of Leader of the Week for her daily hard work and perseverance.  She is a very good student who puts first things first to make sure she completes her work.  Her work is  always neat and organized.  She also seeks first to understand as she does not interrupt during mini-lessons, but quietly raises her hand if she has a question.  Chloe enjoys sharpening the saw by working with her horses and spending time with her little sister.

Math Test on Tuesday over Geometry
Your child will come home with a study guide today.  It is due on Monday.  Please help your child to learn the first page and to study the quadrilateral definitions on the 3rd page.  They should already be very familiar with this, but we talked a lot today about the importance of good study habits in preparation for a test.

 Lunch with Someone You Love
Don’t forget to RSVP!  Our class will have Lunch with Someone You Love on May 13 from11:23-11:48 and then you can stay for Scholastic Book Fair shopping!  This is our final book fair for the year!

50 Nifty Club
Over the next two weeks, the kids will be asked to learn the local and abbreviation for as many U.S. states as they can.  Anyone who can learn all 50 will get a certificate of recognition as a member of the 50 Nifty Club!

Two excellent resources for practicing state identification are the following links.  These have games to help the kids learn.  One has capitals, but they do NOT need to know these to become members of the 50 Nifty Club.  Next week, part of their homework each night will be to play these games and learn the states.  They will also be given a map with the abbreviations to help them study.
